National Night Out with Arlington Police

BY ARLINGTON WEEKLY STAFF

Arlington, Texas. September 29, 2018

The Arlington Police Department is ready for National Night Out which is scheduled for Tuesday, October 2, 2018. This nationwide celebration of police and community partnerships has been going on in Arlington for more than 20 years. Starting around 5 p.m., neighbors will turn on their porch lights and gather outdoors to interact, get to know one another, and greet public safety officials who attend various gatherings and parties around the city.
In many neighborhoods, there will be block parties, cookouts and gatherings in neighborhood parks. Police officers across the city will join neighbors to increase awareness of crime prevention initiatives. The night also involves city leaders and representatives from other city departments. To date, 172 neighborhood groups have registered their participation in National Night Out. Neighbors can still register by going to  http://www.arlington-tx.gov/police/crime-prevention-initiatives/national-night-out/.

“While we strive to ensure people are engaged all year, National Night Out is one of the best times of the year to reconnect and learn more about your hometown police department,” said Police Chief Will Johnson. “We always have an amazing time seeing familiar faces and meeting new residents.”

Over the last several years, Arlington has ranked in the top five for large U.S. cities with populations of 300,000 or more according to the National Association of Town Watch, the lead organizer of National Night Out. Arlington ranked 2nd among large U.S. cities who took part in the program in 2017. The national ranking is based on a number of factors, including neighborhood participation, law enforcement involvement and the overall quality of an agency’s advertising campaign.
