BY ARLINGTON WEEKLY STAFF

Arlington, Texas. September 5, 2017

The Arlington Police Department responded to a major crash in the 800 block of Sansome Drive on Friday, September 1, 2017 around 9:04 p.m. It was reported that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian.

Investigators determined that Yaw Owusu, a 51-year old man, was showing his 11-year old son how to operate a motor vehicle that was parked in the driveway. At some point during the incident, the vehicle reversed backwards with the victim standing near the driver’s side open door frame. This caused the victim to be knocked down and he was dragged by the car from the driveway into the street.

The vehicle continued reversing into a residential front yard across the street and struck a tree. The victim was transported to Medical Center of Arlington Hospital for significant injuries sustained in the crash. He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. No charges are anticipated in this tragic case.

UPDATE:  The victim is the boy's father, Yaw Owusu.
