Update:  According to an HEB Weekly article, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner has identified the body found at the Arlington landfill as that of 14-year-old Kaytlynn Cargill from Bedford.

In a statement Bedford Police said, “We are shocked and saddened with this tragic news.  We will pursue every lead, leave no stone unturned, and bring the person or persons responsible for Kaytlynn’s death to justice.”

On Wednesday, June 21, 2017, the Bedford Police Department was notified by the Arlington Police Department that a female victim had been located at the Republic Service Arlington Landfill.   Bedford investigators immediately responded to the scene to determine if the remains were those of Kaytlynn.

Kaytlynn was last seen walking her dog on Monday, June 19th around 6:20 p.m.   When the teen did not return after 30 minutes, her parents began looking for her.  She was reported missing at 8:00 p.m. that same evening.

During their search for the teen, police canvassed the teen's neighborhood and flyers were posted around the town. According to the flyers, a friend said she saw Kaytlynn tie her dog's leash to a fence and asked friends to watch the dog but never returned.

Initially, police said there was no reason to suspect foul play in the disappearance.   Some residents are criticizing the police department because an Amber alert was not issued.

Kaytlynn was a 7th grader at  Central Junior High in Euless.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact the Bedford Police Department at 817-952-2440.  Tips can also remain anonyous by calling Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS(8477).

GoFundMe page has been created for the teen’s family.
